The Wallingford Historical Society is a 501 (c) 3 corporation, founded in 1977, a not-for-profit, membership supported, organization that exists to collect, preserve, and interpret Wallingford’s history for present and future generations. According to I.R.S. guidelines, contributions over the value of goods and services are tax deductible.
The general membership meetings are held monthly May through October and are open to the public. After a brief business meeting, a program of local interest is presented followed by complimentary refreshments.

great job on this blog/web page… I am not exactly sure what to call it oops!
I will say we don’t always have a meeting prior to our programs although we did talk about this today. We will at least keep people up on what is going on and when we will actually have a meeting. Also I would answer any questions prior to our program.
As far as refreshments go we haven’t had them of late but we will for sure at the coffee house…

I have a small trophy supplied by Paynes of Wallingford. The badge is difficult to decipher, but is something like”Wallingford Siotligom Communerde” I lived in The Swan in Cholsey some 40 yrs ago, and may have found it there . Can you shed any light on it? Regards Brian Reeve

I am looking for information on Moses Yale Beach’s second wife, Julia Ann Kelly. I am researching a Edward Beach Gallaher, Norwalk, CT and Julia Ann was his grandmother. Julia Ann and Moses Yale Beach had 2 children, George Washington and Julia Ann Beach(Ed’s mom). I noticed that Moses Yale is buried at the Center Street Cemetery next to Nancy Day, his first wife. Hello… I spent many weekends and holidays in the late ’60’s visiting the home of my Aunt & Uncle Finley J. and Helen B. Shepard… both of whom have long since passed away. I have recently been reminded of stories he had told of someone owning an electric car in Wallingford in the 1930-40’s. I can’t remember if it was a vehicle he had owned or if he was referring to someone else in Wallingford owning one. I was hoping that someone with your historical society might recall whom it was that owned the car.

I’ve been on the hunt for a copy of “Baker Genealogy” by James W. Reed, who was the chairman of the “Baker Board,” which was based in Wallingford. If anyone has any information on where to obtain a copy or could illuminate the mystery of the “Baker Board,” it would be greatly appreciated.
My grandparents managed the True Temperance Inn in the 1920s-30s.
My grandfather was a doctor at the CCC West River Forest Camp No. 2134 in East Wallingford, VT. We found an old group photo of all the members of the camp, but it is in serious need of restoration. Do you know where I could go to find out more information about this camp and if there is possibly a photo archive where I could purchase a copy of the image?

I know some recent history (which was very sad), and was hoping to get some information on the builder (I heard a rumour that he was a dentist, with the last name of “Chase”, who
snow-shoed into town in the winter to work, when this was the only house in the area…but that was hearsay from a neighbor).

My name is Bryan Lamkin and I am a professor of American history at Azusa Pacific University in southern California. I will be taking the opportunity to tour New England and do some genealogy research a week prior to a conference I have in Vermont. One of my ancestors, Deborah
Newcomb (1702-1749), who married Thomas Lamkin (1694-1750), apparently died in Wallingford. Since our time is limited, I’m wondering if there are any “footprints” of Deborah in or around Wallingford, or if I would merely be seeing the town/area in which she lived. Although we would love to see the area, we also, unfortunately, must prioritize.

My mother Barbara Shufelt was born in Wallingford in 1933. I care for her now and have been going through photos from around then and some are Elfin Lake, a great long dock with an amazing diving structure on it. Let me know if you want a copy.

My grandmother grew up in Wallingford and left the family with a box of old pictures from weddings, schools, Holy Trinity School. People and places in Wallingford history. We would like to donate these pictures rather than throw out someone’s family. Do you except these items and if so when is a good time to drop these things off?

I work for a company that accepts donations. In a box of silver we received were two candle stick holders that are engraved Isaac Bradley Munson – Emeline Maria Hall September 9th 1803. I did some research and found they were married on that day and lived in Wallingford. Would like to try to find descendants. Could you be of some help? Thanks for your time.
